Each Tuesday, Todd will be sharing a playlist of 12 songs people should be listening to this week. Listen above and let us know what you think!
Some Key Highlights/Blurbs:
Punk Groups Weezer -yes, Weezer - and Blink-182 came out with new singles that are actually decent, and that's why they are on this list. Blink-182 is actually going on tour this year, and coming out with a new album.
Kiiara/Zara Larsson: Taking over the pop-alt scene
With similar sounds, these two groups should be going down the same career path. Look for both on the radio soon.
The Knocks first full album is pretty good
They bring a fresh sound to the rap game, with a funk-fusion feel that combines with a real old-school sound. This album is full of potential anthems, so I gave a sample of that in this playlist.
Joywave made an album out of one song
Every song on their album sounds the same. That's on purpose though, as each track seems to be an extension of the first.
BJ The Chicago Kid is a new rap/jazz artist on the scene. If you made a member of the Rat Pack into a rapper, this would be the result. BJ is just cool.
Oscar Peterson is not a current artist, but his rendition of the song "Mumbles" is something everyone has to hear. It will be stuck in your head, no doubt.
Two hit country albums by Granger Smith and Eric Church make their presence known on this playlist. In recent years I have really latched on to country music. Like any genre, the artists within it range in quality, and the purpose of the music they produce varies. Granger is relatively new to the game, while Eric "Chief" Church has been around the block a few times. Both have a similar ability to tell stories, utilizing metaphors, symbolism, and their own lingo. These are two albums I have listened to multiple times each, and are worth a listen at least once.
POWERS actually make multiple appearances on this playlist - one with a cameo in The Knocks album, and another in a remix of one of their own songs. The remix has summer anthem all over it.
If you're interested in what a Cake Eater is, you can find it on Urban Dictionary, or listen to Game On Minnesota!'s anthem about it and figure it out for yourself.
Tune in next Tuesday for another Todd Tuesday Twelve playlist!
