Crazy Taxi is one of those games that many may know of and one of those fun games that Sega made. Crazy Taxi is a game that is basically about being a taxi driver, getting your passenger to their destination and at the end of the game try to get paid the most to beat scores. This game started as an arcade game in the year 1999 with a sit-down machine that had a steering wheel, gas and brake pedals. You can choose between 4 drivers as well but the game got so popular the game got ported to the Sega Dreamcast. As time went by, the game got later ported to the Nintendo Gamecube, Sony PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and the most recent iOS and Android system. Crazy Taxi is one of those games that are close to my heart and are my childhood game that I still play to this day. In the arcade version, you only had one arcade mode to play from but the ports to the different consoles added more modes like the original mode for a different track to drive in and the Crazy Box that teaches you tips and tricks of the game.
One favorite trick was learning how to do the crazy dash to speed up the taxi and a funny secret is when you finish the crazy box to unlock the bicycle taxi to ride on. For the bike taxi to be unlocked in the arcade, you need to insert a code to unlock it. What made this game was the soundtrack that was included in the game. The original soundtrack was filled with mostly punk rock and made the drive feel oh so energetic but when they brought it back to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, they changed the soundtrack to just plain rock but that to me made the game not as energetic as it has been.
When they brought back the game to the mobile devices, they brought back the old music, in which made me happy to play the game. The controls are very simplistic, gas, brake, and steering which is always changed by the system’s controller but can be customized by the menu. The mobile one has only two control schematics, touch screen controls and the motion sensor control to steer the taxi. In all honesty, this game will always bring nostalgia to me and will always bring out a joy that most games do not for me these days. Finding this game for the older consoles can be tricky but it’s a good thing they brought it to the Apple Store and Play Store so anybody can play the game. Go out and buy the game for $4.99 to enjoy this simple game with everyone.
