Kanye West has had a career that has been filled with success. Here are the links to Kanye West: A Career Review Part 1 and Part 2. As stated in Part 2, I declared My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy to be the highest point in Kanye’s musical career. For his three albums to follow My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy had glimmers of the excellence that Kanye West once had. Watch The Throne (collaboration with Jay-Z), Yeezus, and The Life of Pablo
Watch The Throne 2011: A collaboration album with Jay-Z. This album is produced very well regarding beats, but the album overall is confusing. It is hard to associate with the message of this album. I am sorry that I am not an incredibly wealthy person, and I don’t care about how rich you are. I expect that attitude from artists like 50 cent and other talented but mostly surface rappers and artists. Jay-Z and Kanye are expected to have a bigger impact on the world, and they are brilliant. I felt that Watch The Throne was extremely egotistic. However, all negativity aside, there are some songs in Watch The Throne that were great.
Lift Off With Jay-Z and feat. Beyonce:
“Lift off, takin’ my coat off
Showin’ my tattoos, I’m such a showoff (Huh?)
I feel the pain and then rolled off
I got the whole city, they about to go off”
Kanye is hiding his egotisicial demeanor behind the angelical voice of Beyonce. You can understand why he disrupted Taylor Swift at the Grammy’s. The beat for this track is amazing because it makes yourself feel uplifted. A brilliant title pairing for the song.
No Churches in the Wild. feat. Frank Ocean and The Dream:
“We formed a new religion
No sins as long as there’s permission’
And deception is the only felony
So never fuck nobody wit’out tellin’ me
Sunglasses and Advil”
You heard Kanye, they have formed a religion of egotisticalism. Believe in thyself to succeed. Truthfully, there is a meaning of motivation of what Kanye has accomplished throughout his career and No Churches in the Wild shows that. Mostly, however, it only has a sick beat to hide the mostly shallow album.
Yeezus 2012: I had to shelve this album for four years to make it bearable. Most people know of this album based on Kanye’s “I Am a God” and “Black Skinhead” while those two songs are pretty fun and have nice beats. They are very well composed but lack any depth. “Bound 2” is also well renown for other reasons.
Hold My Liquor:
“Tellin' you that I'm bogus, bitch you don't even know us
Baby girl, he's a loner, baby girl, he's a loner
Late night organ donor, after that he disown ya
After that he's just hopeless, soul mates become soulless
When he's sober it's over and bitch, I'm back out my coma”
Now, If you were to take out “I’m back out my coma” Kanye is attacking the hookup culture, our society right now is in a place where establishing meaningful relationships are gone. Instantaneous gratification is required in all aspects of life. Kanye depicts this attack on a well-composed track that brings me back to his 808s and Heartbreak’s Kanye. ‘
Blood On the Leaves would be an amazing song if it had any meaning. However, it is talking about a side chick. Who cares. I do feel that the beat is amazing, and I like it more than the entire album.
Bound 2 just watch this video, and I am sure you’d understand what this song is about. Heck, you might not even care like everyone else.
The Life of Pablo 2016: Originally called Waves and then Swish. Kanye Took a long break and made a beautiful album in which the egotistical Kanye West has lessened, and an excellent album came from it. However, it was the only album that did not go Platinum for Kanye. This is mostly due to the initial exclusivity agreement with Tidal for The Life of Pablo and fewer record sales with era streaming of music. He has one song that stood out for me; Real Friends. Waves, Ultralight Beams, Fade, and FML, are honorable mentions.
“To real friends, 'til the reel end 'Til the wheels fall off, 'til the wheels don't spin To 3 A.M., callin' How many real friends? Just to ask you a question Just to see how you was feelin’
How many? For the last you was frontin’”
Kanye is addressing that even though he has become very successful. He doesn't know who is only with him for their own personal gain. This dilemma is something that we all can relate to as listeners, we always have friends who are selfish and in the inside we always judge their real disposition on our friendship. As usual, the production quality is of the highest and has more than the surface album of Yeezus.
Kanye West is one of the most influential artists of the 21st century. Whether you like it or not, he is. Recently, he took a step backward with albums filled with popular tracks that have no meaning to them. What happened to the Political Kanye of The College Dropout and Late Registration era? Maybe he was consumed by the glam of his success, and he changed. However, Kanye West’s true-self will be reflected in his music that was the best during the first half of his career. Kanye West is only 38, and we can expect many more albums in the future from Kanye.
